Abram; the same is Abraham.
Look
unto Abraham your father, and unto Sarah that bare you: for I called him alone, and blessed him, and increased him.
**
The
sons of Abraham; Isaac,
and Ishmael.
These are their
generations: The firstborn of Ishmael, Nebaioth; then Kedar, and Adbeel, and
Mibsam,
Mishma, and
Dumah, Massa, Hadad, and Tema,
Jetur, Naphish,
and Kedemah. These are the sons of Ishmael.
***
And
Abram and Nahor took them wives: the name of Abram's
wife was Sarai; and the name of Nahor's wife,
Milcah,
the daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah, and the father of Iscah.
But Sarai was barren;
she
had no child.
**
and it
ceased
to be with Sarah after the manner of women.
**
Now Sarai Abram's
wife - bare him no children:
**
And
the waters prevailed upon the earth an hundred and fifty days.
*
The fountains
also of the deep and the windows of heaven were stopped,
and the rain
from
heaven was restrained;
And
the waters returned from off the earth continually:
and
after the end
of
the hundred and fifty days the waters were abated.
**
And
Sarai said unto Abram, Behold now,
the Lord hath restrained me from bearing:
I pray thee, go in unto my maid; it
may be that I may obtain
children by her.
*
And
unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife,
and hast eaten of the tree,
of which I commanded thee,
saying, Thou
shalt
not eat of it:
cursed is the ground
for
thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou
eat
of it all
the days of thy life;
*
And
Abram hearkened to
the voice of Sarai.
And
Sarai - Abram's - wife took Hagar
her maid the Egyptian,
after Abram had dwelt ten years in the land of Canaan, and gave her
-
to
her husband
Abram - to be his wife.
*
And
he went in unto Hagar, and she conceived: . .
*
And
the angel of the Lord said unto her, Behold,
thou art with child, and shalt bear a son, and shalt
call his name
Ishmael; because the Lord hath heard thy
affliction.
. . .
*
And
God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night.
And
the evening and the morning
were the
first day.
*
And
the
earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed - after
his kind, and the tree
yielding fruit,
whose seed was in it-self,
- after his
kind: and
God
saw that it
was
good.
*
And
she called the name of the Lord that spake unto her,
Thou God see-st me: for
she said,
*
In the
beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
*
Have
I also - here
looked after him that see-th me?
*
And
when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired
to make one
wise,
she took of the fruit thereof,
. . .
*
And
I
will put enmity - between
thee and the work-man, - and between - thy
seed and her seed; it shall bruise
thy head,
and thou shalt bruise
his heel.
*
Wherefore
the well was called Beerlahairoi; behold,
it
is between Kadesh and Bered.
And
Hagar bare Abram a son: and Abram called his
son's
name,
which Hagar bare, Ishmael.
***
And
Abraham said unto God, O
that
Ishmael might live before thee! . . .
*
But
with thee
will I establish my covenant;
and thou shalt
come into the ark, thou,
and thy sons, and thy wife,
- and thy sons' - wives with thee.
*
And God said, Sarah thy
wife
shall bear thee a son indeed; and thou shalt call his name Isaac:
and I will
establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his seed after him.
***
Un-to
Adam also
and
to his wife did the Lord God make coats of skins, and
clothed them.
And
the Lord God said, Behold, the man - is
become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put
forth
his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live
for ever:
Therefore
the Lord God sent him forth from the garden of Eden,
to till the ground from whence he was taken.
*
But my covenant will I establish with Isaac, which Sarah shall bear unto thee at this set time - in the next year.
And
he left off talking with him,
and
God
went up - from Abraham.
**
And
Sarai said unto Abram, Behold now,
the Lord hath restrained me from bearing:
I pray thee, go in unto my maid; it
may be that I may obtain
children by her.
**
And
he went in
unto Hagar,
and she conceived:
**
And
the Lord
visited
Sarah as
he had said, and the Lord
did unto Sarah
as he
had spoken.
For Sarah conceived, . . .
*
And
the Lord God planted a
garden eastward in Eden; and there he put
the man whom he had formed.
*
And
Adam knew his wife again;
and she bare a son, and called his name Seth: For God,
said she, hath appointed me - another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain slew.
*
and
bare Abraham a son in his old
age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him.
And
Abraham called
the name of his son that was born unto him, whom Sarah bare to him, Isaac.
*****
And
he
arose,
and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off,
- - his father saw him, and had compassion,
and ran,
and fell on his neck,
and kissed
him.
