Sermon on the Mountain XXXIII

Judgement

And Cain knew his wife; and she conceived, and bare Enoch: and he builded a city, and called the name of the city, - after the name of his son, Enoch.
*****
And he set judges in the land throughout all the fenced cities of Judah, city by city,
And said to the judges, Take heed what ye do: for ye judge not for man, - but for the Lord, who is with you in the judgment.
Wherefore now let the fear of the Lord be upon you; take heed and do it: for there is no iniquity with the Lord our God, nor respect of persons, nor taking of gifts.
*****
Thy silver is become dross, thy wine mixed with water:
Thy princes are rebellious, and companions of thieves: every one loveth gifts, and followeth after rewards: - they judge not the fatherless, - neither doth the cause of the widow come unto them.
Therefore saith the Lord, the Lord of hosts, the mighty One of Israel, Ah, I will ease me of mine adversaries, and avenge me of mine enemies:

tin
(tin)n. 1.   SymbolSn. A malleable, silvery metallic element obtained chiefly from cassiterite. It is used to coat other metals to prevent corrosion and is a part of numerous alloys, such as soft solder, pewter, type metal, and bronze.
                                                    American Heritage Talking Dictionary

And I will turn my hand upon thee, and purely purge away thy dross, and take away all thy tin:

And I will restore thy judges as at the first, and thy counsellors as at the beginning: - afterward thou shalt be called, - The city of righteousness, - the faithful city.
*****
And Lamech took unto him two wives: the name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other Zillah.
*****
Zi-on shall be redeemed with judgment, and her converts with righteousness.
And the destruction of the transgressors and of the sinners shall be together, and they that forsake the Lord shall be consumed.
*****
And let us arise, and go up to Bethel; and I will make there an altar unto God, who answered me in the day of my distress, and was with me in the way which I went.
And they gave unto Jacob all the strange gods which were in their hand, and all their earrings which were in their ears; and Jacob hid them - under the oak which was by Shechem.
*****
For they shall be ashamed of the oaks which ye have desired, and ye shall be confounded for the gardens that ye have chosen.
For ye shall be as an oak whose leaf fadeth, and as a garden that hath no water.
And the strong shall be as tow, and the maker of it as a spark, and they shall both burn together, and none shall quench them.
*****

Judge not, - that - ye be not judged.
For with what judgment ye judge, - ye shall be judged: and with what measure - ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.
*****
He hath said in his heart, God hath forgotten: he hideth his face; he will never see it.
Arise, O Lord; O God, lift up thine hand: forget not the humble.
*****
And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
*****

Wherefore doth the wicked contemn God? he hath said in his heart, . . .
*****
And surely your blood of your lives will I require; - at the hand of every beast will I require it, and at the hand of man; - at the hand of every man's brother will I require the life of man.
*****

. . .Thou wilt not require it.
Thou hast seen it: for thou beholdest mischief and spite, to requite it with thy hand: the poor committeth himself unto thee; thou art the helper of the fatherless.
Break thou the arm of the wicked and the evil man: seek out his wickedness - till thou find none.
*****
And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?

Sermon on the Mountain XXXII

For the poor shall never cease out of the land:

And Joseph said unto them, Fear not: for am I in the place of God?
But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.
*****
If his children be multiplied, it is for the sword: and his offspring shall not be satisfied with bread. Those that remain of him shall be buried in death: and his widows shall not weep. Though he heap up silver as the dust, and prepare raiment as the clay; He may prepare it, but the just shall put it on, and the innocent shall divide the silver.
*****
But thou art cast out of thy grave like an abominable branch, and as the raiment of those that are slain, thrust through with a sword, that go down to the stones of the pit; as a carcase trodden under feet.
*****
And why take ye thought for raiment?
*****
Thou hast planted them, yea, they have taken root: they grow, yea, they bring forth fruit: thou art near in their mouth, and far from their reins.
But thou, O Lord, knowest me: thou hast seen me, and tried mine heart toward thee: pull them out like sheep for the slaughter, and prepare them for the day of slaughter.
*****

Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; - they toil not, neither do they spin: And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
*****
For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.
Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith.
*****
Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?
*****
And if ye shall say, What shall we eat the seventh year? behold, we shall not sow, nor gather in our increase:

Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat?
*****
And the people murmured against Moses, saying, What shall we drink?
And he cried unto the Lord; and the Lord shewed him a tree, which when he had cast into the waters, the waters were made sweet: there he made for them a statute and an ordinance, and there he proved them,
*****

or, What shall we drink?

*****
Now therefore arise, O Lord God, into thy resting place, thou, and the ark of thy strength: let thy priests, O Lord God, be clothed with salvation, and let thy saints rejoice in goodness.
*****
or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?

(For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.

*****
Thus saith the Lord the King of Israel, and his redeemer the Lord of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God.
And who, as I, shall call, and shall declare it, and set it in order - for me, since I appointed the ancient people? and the things that are coming, and shall come, let them shew unto them.
Fear ye not, neither be afraid: have not I told thee from that time, and have declared it? ye are even my witnesses. Is there a God beside me? yea, there is no God; I know not any.

*****

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
*****
And all the wise men, that wrought all the work of the sanctuary, came every man from his work which they made;
And they spake unto Moses, saying, The people bring much more than enough for the service of the work, which the Lord commanded to make.
And Moses gave commandment, and they caused it to be proclaimed throughout the camp, saying, Let neither man nor woman make any more work for the offering of the sanctuary. So the people were restrained from bringing.
For the stuff they had was sufficient for all the work to make it, and too much.
*****

Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself.
*****
Beware - that there be not a thought in thy wicked heart, saying, The seventh year, the year of release, is at hand; and thine eye be evil against thy poor brother, and thou givest him nought; and he cry unto the Lord against thee, and it be sin unto thee.
Thou shalt surely give him, and thine heart shall not be grieved when thou givest unto him: because that for this thing the Lord thy God shall bless thee in all thy works, and in all that thou puttest thine hand unto.
For the poor shall never cease out of the land: therefore I command thee, saying, Thou shalt open thine hand wide unto thy brother, to thy poor, and to thy needy, in thy land.
*****

Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

Sermon on the Mountain XXXI

And the Lord said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold.

And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.
The voice said, Cry. And he said, What shall I cry? All flesh is grass, and all the goodliness thereof is as the flower of the field:
*****
And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man - became a living soul.
*****
The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: because the spirit of the Lord bloweth upon it: surely the people is grass.
The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.

And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

And the Lord said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.
*****
And Adam knew his wife again; and she bare a son, and called his name Seth:
For God, said she, hath appointed - me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain slew.
*****

And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come - before me;  for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold,  - I will destroy them with the earth.

Make thee an ark of gopher wood; rooms shalt thou make in the ark, . . . .
*****
And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them throughly. And they had brick - for stone, and slime had they - for mortar.

And when she could not longer hide him, she took for him an ark of bulrushes, and daubed it with slime and - with pitch, and put the child therein; and she laid it in the flags by the river's brink.
*****
rooms shalt thou make in the ark, and shalt - pitch it within - and without  with pitch.
*****
Thou know-est that I am not wicked; and there is none that can deliver out of thine hand. Thine hands have made me and fashioned me - together round about; yet thou dost destroy me.
*****

And this is the fashion which thou shalt make it of:

*****
With the ancient is wisdom; and in length of days understanding.
*****
The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits,

*****
Enlarge the place of thy tent, and let them stretch forth the curtains of thine habitations: spare not, lengthen thy cords, and strengthen thy stakes;
For thou shalt break forth on the right hand and on the left; and thy seed shall inherit the Gentiles, and make the desolate cities to be inhabited.
*****

the breadth of it fifty cubits,

*****
For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt - my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:
I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.
*****

and the height of it thirty cubits.

*****
And he said to the king of Israel, Put thine hand upon the bow. And he put his hand upon it: and Elisha put his hands upon the king's hands.
And he said, Open the window eastward. And he opened it. Then Elisha said, Shoot. And he shot. And he said, The arrow of the Lord's deliverance, and the arrow of deliverance from Syria: for thou shalt smite the Syrians in Aphek, till thou have consumed them.
*****
A window shalt thou make to the ark,
*****
And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the Lord's house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it.
And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.
*****
and in a cubit - shalt thou finish it above;
*****
And Lot went out - at the door unto them, and shut the door - after him,
And the firstborn said unto the younger, Our father is old, and there is not a man in the earth to come in unto us - after the manner of all the earth:
*****
and the door of the ark shalt thou set in the side thereof;

*****
Ye have seen also the breaches of the city of David, that they are many: and ye gathered together the waters of the lower pool.
Sing, O ye heavens; for the Lord hath done it: shout, ye lower parts of the earth: break forth into singing, ye mountains, O forest, and every tree there-in: for the Lord hath redeemed Jacob, and glorified himself in Israel.
*****
with lower,

*****
And it shall come to pass in that day, that the Lord shall set his hand - again the second time to recover the remnant of his people, which shall be left, from Assyria, and from Egypt, and from Pathros, and from Cush, and from Elam, and from Shinar, and from Hamath, and from the islands of the sea.
And he shall set up an ensign - for the nations, and shall assemble the outcasts of Israel, and gather together the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth.
*****
second,
*****
And though they go into captivity - before their enemies, thence will I command the sword, and it shall slay them: and I will set mine eyes upon them for evil, and not for good.
And the Lord God of hosts is he that toucheth the land, and it shall melt, and all that dwell there-in shall mourn: and it shall rise up wholly like a flood; and shall be drowned, as by the flood of Egypt.
It is he that buildeth his stories in the heaven, and hath founded his troop in the earth; he that calleth for the waters of the sea, and poureth them out upon the face of the earth: The Lord is his name.
Are ye not as children of the Ethiopians unto me, O children of Israel? saith the Lord. Have not I brought up Israel out of the land of Egypt? and the Philistines from Caphtor, and the Syrians from Kir?
*****
and third stories shalt thou make it. And, behold, I, - even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, - where-in is - the breath of life, from under heaven; and every thing that is in the earth shall die.

Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?
