Visions

A Vision

And it came to pass, when she travailed, that the one - put out his hand: and the midwife took and bound upon his hand a scarlet thread,
saying,
This came out first.
*
And it came to pass, as he drew back his hand, - that, behold, his brother came out:
and she said,
How hast thou broken forth? this breach be upon thee:
therefore his name was called Pharez.

And afterward came out his brother, that had the scarlet thread upon his hand: and his name was called Zerah.
**
And he will lift up an ensign to the nations - from far, and will hiss unto them from the end of the earth: and, behold, they shall come with speed swiftly:
None shall be weary nor stumble among them; none shall slumber nor sleep; neither shall the girdle of their loins be loosed, nor the latchet of their shoes be broken:
*****
That I - will not take from - a thread even to a shoelatchet, and that I - will not take any thing - that is thine, lest thou shouldest say, I have made Abram rich:
Save only that which the young men have eaten, and the portion of the men which went with me, Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre; let them take their portion.
*****
Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said, . . .
*
If we assay to commune with thee, wilt thou be grieved?
*
. . . Now a thing was secretly brought to me, and mine ear received a little thereof.
In thoughts from the visions of the night, when deep sleep falleth on men,
Fear came upon me, and trembling, which made all my bones to shake.
Then a spirit passed before my face; the hair of my flesh stood up:
It stood still, but I could not discern the form thereof: an image was before mine eyes, there was silence, and I heard a voice, saying,
Shall mortal man be more just than God? shall a man be more pure than his maker?
Behold, he put no trust in his servants; and his angels he charged with folly:
How much less in them that dwell in houses of clay, whose foundation is in the dust, which are crushed before the moth?
They are destroyed from morning to evening: they perish for ever without any regarding it.
Doth not their excellency which is in them go away? they die, even without wisdom.
*****
But Job answered and said,

When I say, My bed shall comfort me, my couch shall ease my complaint; Then thou scarest me with dreams,
and terrifiest me through visions:
So that my soul chooseth strangling, and death rather than my life. I loathe it;
I would not live - alway: let me alone; for my days are vanity.
*****
And he said, Hear now my words: If there be a prophet among you, I the Lord will make myself known unto him in a vision,
and will speak unto him in a dream.
**
And I will put a division between my people and thy people: tomorrow shall this sign be.
**
And these are the kings of the country which Joshua and the children of Israel smote on this side Jordan on the west, from Baalgad in the valley of Lebanon even unto the mount Halak, that goeth up to Seir; which Joshua gave unto the tribes of Israel for a possession according to their divisions;
**
My servant Moses is - not so, who is faithful in -- all mine house.
With him will I speak mouth to mouth, even apparently, and not in dark speeches;
*****
After these things - the - word - of the Lord came unto Abram - in a - vision,
saying,
Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.
*****
And the king of Sodom said unto Abram, Give me the persons, and take the goods to thyself.
*****
And when Abram heard that his brother was taken captive, he armed his trained servants, born in his own house, three hundred and eighteen, and pursued them unto Dan.
And he divided himself against them, he and his servants, by night, and smote them, and pursued them unto Hobah, which is on the left hand of Damascus.
*****
the - word - of the Lord came unto Abram - in a  vision, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.
*****
Now these are the generations of Terah: Terah begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran begat Lot.
***
And Abram said to the king of Sodom, - I have lift up mine hand unto the Lord, the most high God, the possessor of heaven and earth,
***
And when Abram heard that his brother was taken captive, he armed his trained servants, born in his own house,
*****
And Abram said, Behold, to me thou hast given no seed: and, lo, one born in my house is mine heir.
*****
And it came to pass
*****
And, behold, the word of the Lord came unto him, saying, This shall not be thine heir; but he that shall come forth out of thine own bowels shall be thine heir.
*****
And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night:
he made the stars also.
**
And he said, Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be - unto his brethren.
**
And the Arvadite, and the Zemarite, and the Hamathite: and afterward were the families of the Canaanites spread abroad.

*****
And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them:
and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be.
*****
And God saw the light, that it was good:
*****
And he believed in the Lord; and he counted it to him for righteousness.

O Lord our God, other lords beside thee have had dominion over us: but by thee only will we make mention of thy name.

They are dead, they shall not live; they are deceased, they shall not rise: therefore hast thou visited and destroyed them, and made all their memory to perish.

Thou hast increased the nation, O Lord, thou hast increased the nation: thou art glorified: thou hadst removed it far unto all the ends of the earth.

Lord, in trouble have they visited thee, they poured out a prayer when thy chastening was upon them.

Like as a woman with child, that draweth near the time of her delivery, is in pain, and crieth out in her pangs; so have we been in thy sight, O Lord.

We have been with child, we have been in pain, we have as it were brought forth wind; we have not wrought any deliverance in the earth; neither have the inhabitants of the world fallen.

Thy dead men shall live, together with my dead body shall they arise. Awake and sing, ye that dwell in dust: for thy dew is as the dew of herbs, and the earth shall cast out the dead.

Come, my people, enter thou into thy chambers, and shut thy doors about thee: hide thyself as it were for a little moment, until the indignation be overpast.

For, behold, the Lord cometh out of his place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity: the earth also shall disclose her blood, and shall no more cover her slain.

In that day the Lord with his sore and great and strong sword shall punish leviathan the piercing serpent, even leviathan that crooked serpent; and he shall slay the dragon that is in the sea.

In that day sing ye unto her, A vineyard of red wine.
I the Lord do keep it; I will water it every moment: lest any hurt it, I will keep it night and day.

Fury is not in me: who would set the briers and thorns against me in battle? I would go through them, I would burn them together.

Or let him take hold of my strength, that he may make peace with me; and he shall make peace with me.
He shall cause them that come of Jacob to take root: Israel shall blossom and bud, and fill the face of the world with fruit.

Hath he smitten him, as he smote those that smote him? or is he slain according to the slaughter of them that are slain by him?

In measure, when it shooteth forth, thou wilt debate with it: he stayeth his rough wind in the day of the east wind.

By this therefore shall the iniquity of Jacob be purged; and this is all the fruit to take away his sin; when he maketh all the stones of the altar as chalkstones that are beaten in sunder, the groves and images shall not stand up.

Yet the defenced city shall be desolate, and the habitation forsaken, and left like a wilderness: there shall the calf feed, and there shall he lie down, and consume the branches thereof.

When the boughs thereof are withered, they shall be broken off: the women come, and set them on fire: for it is a people of no understanding: therefore he that made them will not have mercy on them, and he that formed them will shew them no favour.

And it shall come to pass in that day, that the Lord shall beat off from the channel of the river unto the stream of Egypt, and ye shall be gathered one by one, O ye children of Israel.
