Burnt Offerings XII

Yea,
the fir trees rejoice at thee,
and the cedars of Lebanon,

saying,
Since thou art laid down,
no feller is come up against us.
Hell from beneath is moved for thee - to meet thee - at thy coming:
it stirreth up the dead for thee, even all the chief ones of the earth;
it hath raised up from their thrones all the kings of the nations.
***
And before they were laid down,
she came up unto them upon the roof;

And she said unto the men,

I know that the Lord hath given you the land,
and that your terror is fallen upon us, - and that all the inhabitants of the land faint because of you.
For we have heard how the Lord dried up the water of the Red sea for you, when ye came out of Egypt; and what ye did unto the two kings of the Amorites, - that were on the other side Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom ye utterly destroyed.
And as soon as we had heard these things, our hearts did melt, - neither did there remain any more courage in any man, - because of you: for the Lord your God,
he is God in heaven - above,
and in earth beneath.
Now therefore, I pray you, swear unto me by the Lord, since I have shewed you kindness, that ye will also shew kindness unto my father's house,
and give me a true token:
And that ye will save alive my father,
and my mother,
and my brethren,
 and my sisters,
and all that they have, - and deliver our lives from death.

And the men answered her,
Our life for yours, - if ye utter not this our business.
And it shall be, when the Lord hath given us the land, that we will deal kindly and truly with thee.

Ruth
And Naomi
said
unto Ruth her daughter in law,
It is good,
my daughter,
that thou go out with his maidens,
that they meet thee - not - in any other field.

So she kept fast by the maidens of Boaz to glean unto the end of barley harvest and of wheat harvest;
and dwelt with her mother in law.

***
And the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, - made he a workman, and brought her unto the man.

And Adam said,
This is now bone of my bones,
and flesh of my flesh:
she shall be called Woman,
because she was taken out of Man.
 ***
Then Naomi her mother in law
said unto her,
My daughter,
shall I not seek rest for thee, that it may be well with thee?

***
And he said,
Who told thee that thou wast naked?
Hast thou eaten of the tree,
whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?
***
And Laban gave unto his daughter Leah Zilpah - his maid for an handmaid.
*
And Laban gave to Rachel  his daughter Bilhah - his handmaid to be her maid.
***
And Jacob lifted up his eyes,
and looked,
and,
behold,
Esau came,
and with him four hundred men.
And he divided the children unto Leah,
and unto Rachel,
***

And Laban gave to Rachel  his daughter Bilhah - his handmaid to be her maid.

and unto the two handmaids.
And he put the handmaids - and their children foremost,
and Leah and - her children after,
and Rachel and Joseph hindermost.
And he passed over before them,
and bowed himself to the ground seven times,
until he came near to his brother.

And Esau ran to meet him,
and embraced him,
and fell on his neck,
and kissed him:
and they wept.

And he lifted up his eyes,
and saw the women and the children;
and said,
Who are those with thee?
And he said,

The children which God hath graciously given thy servant.

Then the handmaidens came near,
they and their children,
and they bowed themselves.

*****
And now is not Boaz of our kindred,
with whose maidens - thou wast?

Behold,
he winnoweth barley tonight in the threshingfloor.
Wash thy self therefore,
and anoint thee,
and put thy raiment upon thee,
and get thee down to the floor:
but make not thyself known unto the man,
until he shall have done eating and drinking.
And it shall be, when he lieth down,
that thou shalt mark the place where he shall lie, and thou shalt go in,
and uncover his feet, and lay thee down; - and he will tell thee what thou shalt do.
***
And Noah did according unto all that the Lord commanded him.
***
And she said unto her,

All that thou sayest unto me - I will do.
