Sermon on the Mountain : XXI

Surely

But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eat-est there-of thou shalt surely die.

And the serpent said unto the work-man, Ye shall not surely die:

And surely your blood of your lives will I require; at the hand of - every b-east - will I require it, and at the hand of man; at the hand of every-  man's brother will - I require the life of man.
And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, - and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; - and - man became a - living soul.

And it came to pass, when she was in - hard lab-our, that the midwife said unto her, Fear not; thou shalt have this son also.
And it came to pass, as her - soul was in departing, (for she died) that she called his name Benoni: but his father called him Benjamin.
And Rachel died, and was buried in the way to Ephrath, which is Bethlehem.
And Jacob set a pillar upon her grave: that is the pillar of Rachel's - grave unto this day.
And Israel journeyed, and spread his tent beyond the tower of Edar.

As the cloud is consumed and vanisheth away: so he that goeth down to the grave shall come up no more. He shall return no more to his house, neither shall his place know him any more. Therefore I will not refrain my mouth; I will speak in the anguish of my spirit; I will complain in the bitterness of my soul.

Wherefore then hast thou brought me forth out of the womb? Oh that I had given up the ghost, and no eye had seen me! I should have been as though I had not been; I should have been carried from the womb to the grave.

O that thou wouldest hide me in the grave, that thou wouldest keep me secret, until thy wrath be past, that thou wouldest appoint me a set time, and remember me! If a man die, shall he live again? all the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come.

Where-fore is light given to him that is in misery, and life unto the - bitter in soul; Which long for death, but it cometh not; and dig for  it - more than for hid treasures; - Which rejoice exceedingly, and are glad, when - they can find the grave?

As my hand hath found the kingdoms of the idols, and whose graven images did excel them of Jerusalem and of Samaria;
Shall I not, as I have done unto Samaria and her idols, so do to Jerusalem and her idols?

How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! - how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!
For thou hast said in thine he-art, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:
I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.
Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.
They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms;
That made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities there-of; that opened not the house of his prisoners?
All the kings of the nations, even all of them, lie in glory, every one in his own house.
But thou art cast out of thy grave like an abominable branch, and as the raiment of those that are slain, thrust through with a sword, that go down to the stones of the pit; as a carcase trodden under feet.
Thou shalt not be joined with them in burial, because thou hast - destroyed thy land, and slain thy people: the seed of evildoers shall never be renowned.
Prepare slaughter for his children for the iniquity of their fathers; that they do not rise, nor possess the land, nor fill the face of the world with cities.
For I will rise up against them, saith the Lord of hosts, and cut off - from Babylon the name, Jesus- and remnant, and son, and nephew, saith the Lord ISamuelyea.
I will also make it a possession for the bittern, and pools of water: and I will sweep it with the besom of destruction, saith the Lord of hosts.
The Lord of hosts hath sworn, saying, Surely as I have thought, so shall it come to pass; and as

have purposed, so shall it stand:

For where your trea-sure is there will your he-art be al-so.

Sermon on the Mountain XX

Behold

Let the stars of the twilight - thereof be dark; let it look for light, but have none; neither let it -  see the - dawning of the day:

Thine eyes shall - see the - king in his beauty: they shall behold the land that is very far off.

Thine heart shall meditate terror. Where is the scribe? where is the receiver? where is he - that counted the towers?
Thou shalt - not see - a fierce people, - a people of a deeper speech than - thou canst perceive; of a stammering tongue, that thou canst - not understand.

seethe
(seth)v. intr. seethed, seeth-ing, seethes. 1. To churn and foam as if boiling. 2.   To be in a state of turmoil or ferment: The nation seethed with suppressed revolutionary activity. To be violently excited or agitated: I seethed with anger over the insult. See Synonyms at boil1. 3. Archaic. To come to a boil.[Middle English sethen, to boil, from Old English seothan.]--seethe n.

And he said unto them, This is that which the Lord hath said, - Tomorrow is the rest of the holy sabbath unto the Lord: bake that which ye will bake today, and - see-the - that ye will - seethe; and that which remaineth over - lay up - for you to be kept until the morning.

But - lay up -  for yourselves treasures in heaven, . . .

I said, I would scatter them into corners, I would make the remembrance of them to cease from among men:
Were it not that I feared the wrath of the enemy, lest their adversaries should behave themselves strangely, and lest they should say, Our hand is high, and the Lord hath not done all this.
For they are a nation void of counsel, neither is there - any understanding in them.
O that they were wise, that they understood this, that they would consider their latter end!
How should one chase a thousand, and two put ten thousand to flight, except their Rock had sold them, and the Lord had shut them up?
For their rock is not as our Rock, even our enemies themselves being judges.
For their vine is of the vine of Sodom, and of the fields of Gomorrah: their grapes are grapes of gall, their clusters are bitter:
Their wine is the poison of dragons, and the cruel venom of asps.
Is not this - laid up - in store with me, and sealed up among my treasures?
To me belongeth vengeance, and recompence; their foot shall slide in due time: for the day of their calamity is at hand, and the things that shall come upon them make haste.
For the Lord shall judge his people, and repent himself for his servants, when - he seeth - that their power is gone, and there is none shut up, or left.
And he shall say, Where are their gods, their rock in whom they trusted,
Which did eat the fat of their sacrifices, and drank the wine of their drink offerings? let them - rise up and help you, and be your protection.
See now that I, even I, am he, and there is no god with me: I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal: neither is there any that can deliver out of my hand.
For I lift up my hand to heaven, and say, I live for ever.

But - lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth - nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:

Sermon on the Mountain XIX

Law

And he said, - Lay not - thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou - any thing un-to - him: for now - I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, - thine only son - from me.

And Aaron said unto Moses, Al-as,-  my lord, - I beseech thee, - lay not the sin upon us, wherein we have done foolishly, and wherein we have sinned.
Let her not be as one dead, of whom the flesh is half consumed - when he - cometh out of - his mother's womb.

Lay not - up for - yourselves treasures upon earth,

Abraham went - and took the ram, and offered him - up for -a burnt offering in the stead of his son.

Lay not - up for – your-selves treasures upon earth,
For he saith, By the strength of my hand I have done it, and by my wisdom; for I am prudent: and I have removed the bounds of the people, and have robbed their treasures, and I have put down the inhabitants like a valiant man:
And my hand hath found as a nest the riches of the people: and as one gathereth eggs that are left, have I gathered all the earth; and there was none that moved the wing, or opened the mouth, or peeped.

Lay not - up for – your-selves treasures upon earth,

Be merciful, O Lord, unto thy people Israel, whom thou hast redeemed, and - lay not - innocent blood unto thy people of - Israel's charge. And the blood shall be forgiven them.
So shalt thou put away the guilt of innocent blood - from among you, when thou shalt do that which is right in the sight of the Lord.
When thou go-est - forth to war against thine enemies, and the Lord thy God hath delivered them into thine hands, - and thou hast taken them captive,

Lay not up for - yourselves treasures upon earth,

*****
And if any one of the common people sin through ignorance, while he doeth somewhat against any of the commandments of the Lord concerning things which ought not to be done, and be guilty;
And she answered him, Nay, my brother, do not force me; for no such thing ought to be done in Israel: do not thou this folly.
****
Nevertheless the men rowed hard to bring it to the land; but they - could not: for the sea wrought, and was tempestuous against them.
Where-fore they cried unto the Lord, and said, We beseech thee, O Lord, we beseech thee, - let us - not perish -  for this man's life, - and - lay not upon us innocent blood: for thou, O Lord, hast done as it pleased thee.
So they took up Jonah, and cast him forth into the sea: and the sea ceased from - her raging.
Then the men feared the Lord exceedingly, and offered a sacrifice unto the Lord, and made vows.
*****
God hath delivered me to the ungodly, and turned me over into the hands of the wicked. I was at ease,- but he hath broken me asunder: he hath also taken me by my neck, and shaken me to pieces, and set me - up for - his mark.
*****

Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth,
And it shall come to pass in that day, that every place shall be, - where there - were a thousand vines at a thousand silverlings, it shall even be for briers and thorns.
With arrows and with bows shall men come thither; because all the land shall become briers and thorns.
And on all hills that shall be digged with the mattock, there shall not come thither the fear of briers and thorns: but it shall be for the sending forth of oxen, and for the treading of lesser cattle.

and where thieves break through and steal:

Thy princes - are rebellious, and companions of thieves: every one loveth gifts, and followeth - after rewards: they judge not the fatherless, neither doth the cause of the widow come unto them.
There-fore saith the Lord, the Lord of hosts, the mighty One of Israel, Ah, I will ease me of mine adversaries, and avenge me of mine enemies:

and where thieves break through and steal:

Will ye steal,  murder, and commit adultery, and swear falsely, and burn incense unto Baal, and walk - after other gods whom ye know not;
And come and stand before me in this house, which is called by my name, and say, We are delivered to do all these abominations?
Is this house, which is called by my name, become a den of robbers in your eyes? Behold, even I have seen it, saith the Lord.
But go ye now unto my place which was in Shiloh, where - I set my name at the first, and see what I did to it - for the wickedness of my people Israel.
*****
And they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day:

And the Lord God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?
And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.
*****
And now, because ye have done all these works, saith the Lord, and I spake unto you, rising up early and speaking, but ye heard not; and I called you, but ye answered not;
There-fore will I do unto this house, which is called by my name, wherein ye trust, and unto the place which I gave to you and to your fathers, as I have done to Shiloh.
*****
For he looketh to the ends of the earth, and seeth under the whole heaven;
For thy Maker is thine husband; the Lord of hosts is his name; and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; The God of the whole earth shall he be called.

*****
And I will cast you out of my sight, as I have cast out all your brethren, even the whole seed of Ephraim.
Therefore pray not thou for this people, neither lift up cry nor prayer for them, neither make intercession to me: for I will not hear thee.
Seest thou not what they do in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem?

and where thieves break through and steal:
