Then the king's servants, which were in
the king's gate, said unto Mordecai, Why transgressest thou
the king's
commandment?
Now
it
came to pass,
when they spake daily unto him, and he hearkened not unto them, that
they told Haman, to see
whether
Mordecai's matters would stand: for he
had told them that he
was a Jew.
Why
died
I not from the womb? why did I not give up the ghost when I came out of the belly? Why did the knees prevent me?
or why the breasts that I should suck? For now should I have lain
still and been quiet,
And
when Haman saw that Mordecai bowed not, nor did him reverence, then was Haman full of
wrath.
And
he thought scorn to lay hands on Mordecai alone; for they had shewed him the people
of Mordecai: where-fore Haman sought to destroy all the Jews
that were throughout the whole kingdom
of Ahasuerus, - even the people
of Mordecai.
And
Lot went
up
out of Zoar, and dwelt in the mountain, and his two daughters with him; for he feared to dwell in Zoar: and he dwelt in a cave, he and his two
daughters.
And
the firstborn said unto the younger, Our father is old, and there
is
not a man in the earth - to come in unto us after - the manner
of all the earth:
And
if they
be married to any of the sons of the other tribes of the children of Israel, then shall their inheritance be taken
from the inheritance of our
fathers, and shall be put to the inheritance of the tribe where-unto - they are received: so shall it be taken from the lot of our inheritance.
For
the Lord's portion is his people;
Jacob is the lot
of
his
inheritance.
In
the first
month,
that is,
the month Nisan, in the twelfth year of king
Ahasuerus, they cast Pur, - - that is,
the lot,
before
Haman from day - to day, and from month - to
month, to the twelfth month, that is,
the
month Ad-ar.
And
Jacob said, Sell me
this
day thy
birthright.
And
Esau said, Behold, - I am
at
the point to die: and what profit shall this birthright - - do to me?
And
Jacob said, Swear to me - this day; and he sware unto him:
and he sold his
birthright unto Jacob.
Then
Jacob gave Esau bread - and
pottage of lentiles; and he did
eat - and drink, and rose up, and went - his way: thus Esau despised his
birthright.
And
he said, What hast thou
done?
the voice of thy
brother's
blood
crieth unto
me from the ground.
And
Judah said unto his brethren,
- What profit is it if we slay our brother, - -
and conceal his blood?
There-fore they say unto God,
- Depart from us; for we desire not the knowledge of thy ways.
What
is
the Almighty, that we
should
serve him? and what profit should we have, - if we pray unto him?
And Haman said unto
king Ahasuerus, There is a certain people
scattered abroad and
dispersed among the people in all the provinces of thy kingdom; and their laws are - diverse from - all people;
neither keep they the king's
laws: there-fore - it is not for the king's profit to
suffer them.
If
it please the king, let it
be
written that they may be destroyed: and
I
will pay ten
thousand talents of silver to the hands
of those that have the charge
of the
business, to bring it into the king's
treasuries.
