And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

And God said, Let there be light:
and there was light.

And God saw the light,
that it was good:

and God divided the light from the darkness.

And God called the light Day,
and the darkness he called Night.
And the evening and the morning were the first day.

The Waters
And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament;
and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.



And God made the firmament,
and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: . . .

So shall the king of Assyria lead away the Egyptians prisoners,
and the Ethiopians captives,
young and old, naked and barefoot,
even with their buttocks uncovered,
to the shame of Egypt.

The Ground
 And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be al- -one;
I will make him an help meet for him.


And out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field, . . .

And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven.


. . . And out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field,
and every fowl of the air;
and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.
And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field;

but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him.

And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.
And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam,
and he slept:
and he took one of his ribs,
and closed up the flesh instead thereof;

And Adam called his wife's name Eve; . . . mother of all living.
And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters - - from the waters.
And God made the firmament,
and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament:
and it was so.

and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them:
So God created man in his own image,
in the image of God created he him;
male and female created he them.

And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life;
and man became a living soul.



and God divided the light from the darkness.
And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, . . .
she shall be called Woman,
because she was taken out of Man.



Adam also


And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof.

And Zillah, she also bare Tubalcain, an instructor of every artificer in brass and iron:
And to Seth, to him also there was born a son;
and he called his name Enos:
then began men to call upon the name of the Lord.


Unto Adam also and to his wife did the Lord God make coats of skins, and clothed them.
God created he him;

male and female created he them.
Them
And Adam said, This is now
bone of my bones,
and flesh of my flesh: . . .

Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath li-fe,

And God said, Let there be light:

Now

the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.

Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made.

and there was light

Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord,

For want and famine they were solitary; fleeing into the wilderness in former time desolate and waste. . . .
And the people shall be as the burnings of lime: as thorns cut up shall they be burned in the fire.
Hear, ye that are far off, what I have done; and, ye that are near, acknowledge my might.

These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the Lord God made the earth and the heavens,

To dwell in the cliffs of the valleys, in caves of the earth, and in the rocks.
Among the bushes they brayed; under the nettles they were gathered together.
They were children of fools, yea, children of base men:  . . .
And the earth was without form, and void;

. . .they were viler than the earth.

Him

I form the light, and create darkness:
I make peace, and create evil:
I the Lord do all these things.




Adam also
and Satan came al-so - - - among - - - them.



He
There--fore the Lord God sent him forth from the garden of Eden,
to till the ground
from whence he was taken.

Him

And Enoch walked with God: . . . 

but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him.

And Enoch walked with God:  
and he was not;
for God took him.
from whence he was taken.


    And the Lord said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? . . .

then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods,
knowing good and evil.

And the name of the third river is Hiddekel: that is it which goeth toward the east of Assyria.
And the fourth river is Euphrates.

And say ye moreover, Behold, thy servant Jacob is behind us.
For he said, I will appease him with the present that goeth before me, and afterward I will see his face;
peradventure he will accept of me.
So went the present over before him: . . .

And the Lord God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?
And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked;
and I hid myself.

and himself lodged that night in the company.

There-fore the children of Israel eat not of the sinew which shrank, which is upon the hollow of the thigh, unto this day:
because he touched the hollow of Jacob's thigh in the sinew that shrank.
And Jacob lifted up his eyes, and looked, and,
 behold,
Esau came, and with him four hundred men. And he divided the children unto Leah,
and unto Rachel,
and unto the two handmaids.
And he put the handmaids and their children foremost,
and Leah and her children after,
and Rachel and Joseph hindermost.

I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth.

And he passed over before them,
and bowed himself to the ground seven times,
until he came near to his brother.
  And Esau ran to meet him,
and embraced him,
and fell on his neck,
and kissed him:

and
they wept.


Unto Adam also and to his wife did the Lord God make coats of skins, and clothed them.

And when the sun was going down,
. . . , behold, a company of Ishmeelites came from Gilead with their camels bearing spicery and balm and myrrh, going to carry it down to Egypt.

. . . and from walking up and down in it.


but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him.
And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground,
and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.



    And the Lord said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job,
that there is none like him in the earth,
a perfect and an upright man,
one that feareth God, . . .
And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom;
and to depart from evil is understanding.

. . . and escheweth evil?

    Then Satan answered the Lord, and said, . . .

And Laban said unto Jacob, Because thou art my brother, shouldest thou therefore serve me for nought? - - - tell me, what shall thy wages be?

Beware that there be not a thought in thy wicked heart, saying, The seventh year, the year of release, is at hand; and thine eye be evil against thy poor brother, and thou givest him nought;
and he cry unto the Lord against thee,
and it be sin unto thee.

For thus saith the Lord,
Ye have sold yourselves for nought;

and ye shall be redeemed without money.


. . . Doth Job fear God for nought?
Hast not thou made an hedge about him,
and about his house,
and about all that he hath on every side?

thou hast blessed the work of his hands,
and his substance is increased in the land.

But put forth thine hand now,
and touch all that he hath, . . .




And it was so, when the days of their feasting were gone about, -- that Job --sent and sanctified -- them,
and rose up early in the morning, and offered burnt offerings according to the number of them all:
for Job said, It may be that my sons have sinned, and cursed God in their hearts.





. . . and he will curse thee to thy face.     
      

And ye know that with all my power I have served your father.
And your father hath deceived me,
and changed my wages ten times;
but God suffered him not to hurt me.

And the Lord said unto Satan, Behold,
all that he hath is in thy - - - power;
only upon himself put not forth thine hand.

So Satan went forth from the presence of the Lord.
