Law
Man
One
But there went up a mist
from the - earth,
and
watered
the whole
face of
the - ground.
And
the - Lord God formed man
-
of the dust
- of the ground,
Woman
and
breathed into his nostrils
the breath of life;
*
And
the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam,
and
he slept:
and
he took
one
of his ribs,
and
closed up
the flesh instead thereof;
And
the rib,
which the Lord
God had taken from man,
made he a workman,
and
brought her unto the man.
And
Adam said,
This
is
now bone of my bones,
and
flesh of
my flesh:
she
shall be called Woman, because - she was taken
out of Man.
*
And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam,
*
and
he took
one
of his ribs
*
And
Adam knew Eve - his wife;
and
she conceived,
and
bare Cain,
and
said,
I have
gotten - a man - from the Lord.
*
and
man became
a living soul.
*
And
Cain talked with
Abel his brother:
*
And
the Lord God planted a garden eastward in
Eden;
and
there he put
the man whom
- he had formed.
*
And
Cain went
out from
the presence of the Lord,
and
dwelt in
the land
of
Nod, on the east
of
Eden.
*
and
it came to pass,
when
they were
in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother,
and
slew him.
*
And
Lamech took unto him two wives:
the name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other
And
Zillah,
she
also
bare Tubalcain, an instructor of every artificer in
brass and iron:
and
the sister of
Tubalcain was Naamah.
And
Lamech said unto his wives,
Adah and
Zillah,
Hear my
voice; ye wives of Lamech,
*
And
if any
mischief follow, then thou shalt give life - for life,
Eye -
for eye,
tooth
- for tooth,
hand
- for hand,
foot
- for foot,
Burning
-for burning,
wound - for wound,
stripe
- for stripe.
*
See now
that
I,
even
I,
am he,
and
there is
no god with me:
I kill,
and
I
make alive;
I
wound,
and
I heal:
neither
is there any that can deliver out of my hand.
For
I lift up my
hand
to heaven,
and
say,
I live for ever.
*
hearken
unto my speech: for I have slain a man
to my wounding, and a young man to my hurt.
If
Cain
shall be avenged sevenfold, truly Lamech seventy and
sevenfold.
*
And
a river went
out
of Eden - to water the - garden;
and
from thence
- it - was parted,
and
became into four heads.
*
And
the sons of Noah,
that
went forth of the ark,
were
Shem, (Noah’s wife)
and
Ham,
and
- Japheth:
and
- Ham is the
father - of –
Canaan.
These
are the three sons of Noah:
and
of them was the whole
earth overspread.
**
Go
forth of the ark, thou,
and
thy wife,
and
thy sons,
and
thy sons' wives with thee.
Bring
forth with thee every living thing that
is with thee,
of all flesh,
of fowl,
and
of cattle,
and
of every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth;
that
they may breed abundantly in the earth,
*
And
God blessed them,
saying,
Be
fruitful,
and
multiply,
and
fill the waters in
the seas,
and
let fowl multiply
in the earth.
*
and
be fruitful,
and
multiply upon the earth.
**
And
the Lord shall bring thee
into Egypt again with ships,
by the way
whereof
I spake unto thee,
**
And
the Lord said unto Abram, after - that Lot was separated
from him,
Lift up now
thine eyes,
and
look - from the place where thou art - northward, and southward,
and
eastward,
and
westward:
For
all
the land
which
thou seest,
to
thee will
I give it,
and
to thy seed
for ever.
And
I will make thy
seed
as the dust of the earth:
so
that
if a
man can
number the dust of the earth,
then
shall thy
seed
also
be numbered.
Arise,
walk
through the land in
the length of it and in
the breadth of it;
for
I
will give it unto thee.
**
And he said unto Abram, Know of a
surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not
theirs,
and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four
hundred years;
And
also that
nation,
whom
they shall serve,
will I judge:
and
afterward
shall they
come out
with great substance.
*
And many people
shall go and
say,
Come ye,
and
let us
go
up to the mountain
of the Lord,
to the house
of
the God of Jacob;
and
he will teach us of his ways,
and
we will
walk
in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law,
and
the word
of
the Lord from Jerusalem.
And
he shall judge
among
the nations,
and
shall rebuke
many people:
and
they shall beat
their
swords
into plowshares,
and
their spears into pruninghooks:
nation
shall not lift up sword
against nation,
neither
shall they
learn war any more.
O
house of Jacob,
come ye,
and
let us walk in
the light of the Lord.
***
In earlier renderings I
taught the decisions that brought Joseph, a royal tribe thither and and there after his being
beaten down to
a lowly state of destitution and servitude by
savages.
