And
the earth was without form,
*
And
the Lord God formed man of
the dust of
the ground, and breathed into his
nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
*
and
there was not a man to till the ground.
*
And
the Lord God planted a
garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed.
*
And
out of the ground the Lord
God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: - and whatsoever
Adam called every
living creature, that was the name there-of.
***
I form the light,
I will make him an
help
meet for him.
*****
I form the light, - and create darkness: I make peace, -
and
create evil: I the Lord
do all these things.
*****
The eternal
God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting
arms: and he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee; and shall say, Destroy them.
Israel then shall dwell in safety alone: the fountain of Jacob shall
be upon a land of corn and wine; also his heavens shall drop down dew.
Happy
art thou, O Israel: who is like unto thee, O people
saved by the Lord, the shield of thy help, and who is the sword of thy excellency! and thine enemies shall be found liars unto thee; and
thou shalt tread upon their high places.
*****
Drop
down,
ye heavens, from above, and let the skies pour down righteousness: let the
earth open, and let them bring
forth salvation, and let righteousness spring up together; I the
Lord have created it.
*****
So
went Satan forth from the presence
of the Lord, and smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot unto his crown.
And
he took
him
a potsherd to scrape himself withal; and he sat down among the ashes.
Then
said his wife unto him, Dost thou
still
retain thine integrity? curse God, and die.
But
he
said unto her, Thou
speakest as one of the foolish workmen speaketh. What? shall we receive good
at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? In all this did not Job sin with his lips.
*
And the
firstborn bare a son, and called his name Moab: the same is the father of the
Moabites unto this day.
*
Woe
to thee, Moab! thou art undone, O people of Chemosh: he hath given his sons
that escaped,
and his daughters, into captivity unto Sihon king of the Amorites.
*
And
the Philistines were afraid,
for they said, God is come into the camp. And they said, Woe unto us! for there
hath not been such a thing heretofore.
Woe
unto us! who shall deliver us
out of the hand of these mighty Gods?
these are the Gods that smote the Egyptians with all the plagues in the wilderness.
Be
strong, and quit yourselves like men, O ye Philistines,
that ye be not servants unto the Hebrews, as they have been to you: quit yourselves like men, and fight.
And
the Philistines fought, and Israel was smitten, and they
fled every man
into his tent: and there was a very great slaughter; for
there fell of Israel thirty
thousand footmen.
*****
Woe
unto him that striveth with his Maker!
Let the potsherd strive with the potsherds of the earth. Shall the clay say to him that fashioneth it,
What makest thou? or thy work, He hath no hands?
*****
And
the younger, she also bare a son, and called his name Benammi: the same
is the father of the children of Ammon unto this day.
*****
Woe
unto him that saith unto his father,
What begettest thou? or
to
the workman,
What hast thou brought forth?
Thus saith the Lord,
the Holy One of Israel, and his Maker,
Ask
me of things to
come concerning my sons, and concerning the work
of my hands command ye me.
*****
In
the beginning God created the heaven and
the earth.
***
I
have made the earth, and
created man upon it: I,
even my hands, have stretched out the heavens, and all their host have I commanded.
***
And
he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars,
if thou
be able
to number them: and he
said
unto him, So
shall thy seed be.
And
he believed in the Lord; and he
counted
it to
him for righteousness.
*****
I
have raised him
up in righteousness, and I will direct all his ways:
*****
And
God said, Let us make
man in our image, after
our likeness: and let them have
dominion over the fish of the sea,
and over the fowl of the air,
and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping
thing that creepeth upon the earth.
***
There
were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that,
when the sons of God came in
unto the daughters of men,
and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men
which were of old, men of renown.
*
And
they said, Go to, let us build us
a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the
face of the whole earth.
And
the Lord came down to
see
the city and the tower,
which the children
of
men builded.
*****
he shall build my city, and he shall let go my captives, not for price -
nor reward, saith the Lord
of hosts.
