chastening

was upon

them.

 

Like as a woman with child,

that draweth near

the time

of

her

delivery,

 

isin

 

pain,

 

 

and

crieth out

 

in her

pangs;

 

so

have

we

been

 in

thy sight,

 

O Lord.

said,

 

I

 

will certainly

 

return

 

unto

thee according

 

to the time

of life;

 

and,

 

lo,

 

Sarah

thy wife

shall have a son.

 

And Sarah

heard

it in

the

tent door,

 

 

which was

behind

him.

 

 

Now

Abraham

and Sarah

were old

 

and well stricken

in age;

 

and it

ceased

to be with

Sarah

after the manner

of

Egypt.

after the

 

 manner

of

workmen.

 

Therefore

 

Sarah laughed

 

within

 

herself,

I

kept silence,

 

my bones

waxed old

 

through

my roaring

all the day long.

And Adam

said,

 

This is now

bone

my bones,

For what

pleasure hath

he

teach

will greatly multiply

sorrow

and thy conception;

sorrow thou shalt

and thy desire

shall

be

husband,

shall rule over

thee.

my loins filled with pain:

 

 pangs have taken hold

upon

me,

 

as the pangs

of a

woman that travaileth:

 

I

was bowed down

at the

hearing

of it;

was dismayed

at the

seeing

of

it.

 

My heart panted,

fearfulness affrighted

me:

 

the night

of

my

pleasure hath

he

turned

into

fear unto me.

After

I am

 

waxed old

shall

 

I

have pleasure,

lord

being old also?

 

 

And the Lord

said unto

Abraham,

Therefore

Sarah laughed

Wherefore

did

Sarah laugh,

 

saying,

Shall

I

of

a

surety bear a child,

 

which am old?

 

Is

 

any thing too hard

 

for

the Lord?

 

At the time

appointed

 

I

will return

unto

thee,

 

according

to

the time of life,

 

 

and Sarah

shall have a son.

 

 

Then Sarah denied,

saying,

 

I

laughed not;

and

I

was afraid,

 

because

 

I

was naked;

 

and

I

hid myself.

For the thing which

I

greatly feared

is

come upon

me,

 

and that

which

I

was afraid

of

 

is

come unto me.

 

I

was not

in

safety,

 

neither

had

I

rest,

 

neither

was

I

quiet;

 

yet trouble came.

for she

was afraid.

 

And

he

said,

Nay;

 

 

 

but thou

didst laugh.

And Terah

took

son,

Lot

Haran

Canaan,

 

saw the nakedness

This is now bone

Man.

voice of Sarai.

And Sarai

Abram's wife

 

took Hagar

her

maid the Egyptian,

 

after Abram

had dwelt

ten years

the

land of Canaan,

 

 

and gave

her

 

to

 

her

husband

Abram

to be

his wife.
