And the Lord God
commanded the man,
saying,
Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:
But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil,
thou shalt not eat of it:
for in the day - that thou - eatest thereof - thou shalt surely die.
*
And he said,
I heard - thy voice in the garden,
and I was afraid,
because I was naked;
and I hid myself.
And he said,
Who told thee - that thou - wast naked?
Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee - that thou - shouldest not eat?
And the Lord God
said
unto the woman,
What is this - that thou - hast done?
And the workman said,
The serpent beguiled me,
and I did eat.
*
And the Lord God said
unto the serpent,
Because thou hast done this, . . .
***
For Pharaoh will
say
of the children of Israel,
They are entangled in the land,
the wilderness hath shut them in.
And I will harden Pharaoh's heart,
- that he - shall follow after them;
and I will be honoured upon Pharaoh,
and upon all his host;
that the Egyptians may know - that I am the Lord.
And they did so.
And it was told the king of Egypt that the people fled:
and the heart of Pharaoh and of his servants was turned against the people,
and they said,
Why have we done this,
that we - have let Israel go from serving us?
***
Because - thou hast done this,
thou art cursed above all cattle,
and above every beast of the field;
upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:
***
And in process of time it came to pass, - that Cain - brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the Lord. . . .
. . . And Cain talked with Abel his brother:
and it came to pass,
when they were in the field, that Cain - rose up against Abel his brother,
and slew him.
And the Lord said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother?
And he said,
I know not:
Am I my brother's keeper?
And he said,
What hast thou done?
the voice of thy brother's blood crieth unto me from the ground.
And now art thou cursed from the earth,
which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother's blood from - thy hand;
When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength;
a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth.
And Cain said unto the Lord, My punishment is greater than I can bear.
***
And he said,
Cursed be Canaan;
a servant of servants shall he - be unto his brethren.
***
Yea,
they sacrificed their sons and their daughters unto devils,
And shed innocent blood,
even the blood of their sons and of their daughters,
whom they sacrificed unto the idols of Canaan:
and the land was polluted with blood.
***
Whom the Lord of hosts shall bless,
saying,
Blessed be Egypt my people,
and Assyria the work of my hands,
and Israel - mine inheritance.
***
And he said,
Blessed be the Lord God of Shem;
and Canaan shall be his servant.
***
And Abram said,
Behold,
to me thou hast given no seed:
and,
lo,
one born in - my house is - mine - heir. . . .
***
in the image of God created he him;
***
And,
behold,
the word of the Lord came unto him,
saying, . . .
***
and God divided the light from the darkness.
**
For God doth know - that in the day ye eat thereof,
then your eyes shall be opened,
and ye shall be as gods, knowing
good - and evil.
***
. . . And the Lord said unto Abram, after - that Lot - was - separated - from him,
Lift up now thine eyes,
and look - from the place where - thou art northward,
and southward,
and eastward,
and westward: . . .
***
And the Lord God said unto the serpent,
Because thou hast done this,
thou art cursed - above all cattle,
and above every beast of the field;
upon thy belly shalt thou go,
**
And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground,
**
And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth,
and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil - - continually.
**
Lest there should be among you man,
or workman,
or family,
or tribe,
whose heart turneth away this day from the Lord our God,
to go and serve the gods of these nations;
lest there should be among you a root that beareth gall and wormwood;
***
Behold,
I go forward,
but he is not there;
and backward,
but I cannot perceive him:
On the left hand,
where he doth work,
but I cannot behold him:
he hideth himself on the right hand,
that I cannot see him:
**
Then shall he say also
unto them on the left hand,
Depart from me,
ye cursed,
into everlasting fire,
prepared for the devil and his angels:
For I was an hungred,
and ye gave me no meat:
I was thirsty,
and ye gave me no drink:
I was a stranger,
and ye took me not in:
naked,
and ye clothed me not:
sick,
and in prison,
and ye visited me not.
Then shall they also answer him,
saying,
Lord,
when saw we thee an hungred,
or athirst,
or a stranger,
or naked,
or sick,
or in prison,
and did not minister unto thee?
Then shall he answer them,
saying,
Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these,
ye did it not to me.
And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.
***
And it come to pass,
when he heareth the words of this curse,
that he bless himself in his heart,
saying,
I shall have peace,
though I walk in the imagination of mine heart,
to add drunkenness to thirst:
The Lord will not spare him,
but then the anger of the Lord and his jealousy shall smoke against that man,
and all the curses that are written in this book shall lie upon him,
and the Lord shall blot out his name from under heaven.
**
and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:
***
And when he was come into the house of his god,
they that came forth of - his own bowels –
slew him there with the sword.
***
. . .This shall not be thine heir; . .
**
but Cain was a tiller of the ground.
***
but - he that shall come forth out of thine - own bowels - shall be thine heir.
***
And Jacob went near unto Isaac his father;
and he felt him,
and said,
The voice is Jacob's voice,
but the hands - are - the hands of Esau.
And he discerned him not, because his hands were hairy,
as his brother Esau's hands:
***
and God divided the light from the darkness.
***
so he blessed him.
And he said,
Art thou my very son Esau?
And he said,
I am.
And he said,
Bring it near to me,
and I will eat of my son's venison, . . .
***
And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life;
and man became a living soul.
**
And he said,
Who told thee - that thou - wast naked?
***
. . . that my soul may bless thee.
And he brought it near to him, . . .
***
And the Lord God took the man,
and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it - and to keep it.
And the Lord God commanded the man,
saying,
Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:
But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it:
for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
***
. . . and he did eat:
and he brought him wine,
and he drank.
***
And he brought him forth abroad,
and said,
Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars,
if thou be able to number them:
and he said unto him,
So shall thy seed be.
***
Ask thy young men,
and they will shew thee. Wherefore let the young men find favour in thine eyes:
for we come in a good day:
give,
I pray thee,
whatsoever cometh to thine hand unto thy servants,
and to
thy son David.
***
Nevertheless thou shalt not build the house;
but thy son that shall come forth out of thy loins,
he shall build the house unto my name.
