brother of Aner: and these were confederate with Abram.
**
And
Israel said unto Joseph, Behold, I die: but God shall be with you, and bring you again unto the land of your fathers.
Moreover
I
have
given to thee one
portion above thy
brethren,
which
I took out
of the hand of the Amorite with my sword and with my bow.
*
And
Jacob called unto his sons, and said, Gather
yourselves together,
that I
may
tell you that which shall befall you in
the last days.
**
And
Lamech said unto his wives, Adah and Zillah, Hear my voice; ye wives of Lamech,
hearken unto my speech: for I have slain a man to my wounding, and a young man to my hurt.

sons

as water, thou
shalt not excel; because thou wentest up to thy father's bed;
then defiledst thou it:
*****

of
the sword,
and took Dinah out of Shechem's house, and went out.
*
Simeon and Levi
Simeon
and Levi are brethren;
instruments of cruelty are in - their habitations.
O my soul, come not thou into their
secret; unto their assembly, mine honour, be not thou united: for in their anger they slew a man, and in their selfwill they digged down a wall.
Cursed
be
their anger, for it was fierce; - and their wrath, for it was cruel: I will divide them in
Jacob, and scatter them in Israel.

by the way, and said, Go to, I pray thee, let me come in unto thee; (for he knew not that

she said, What wilt thou give me, that thou mayest come in unto me?
And
he said, I will send thee a kid from the flock.
And
she said, Wilt thou give me
a
pledge, till thou send it?
And
he said, What pledge
shall I
give
thee?
And
she said, Thy signet,
and thy bracelets,
and thy staff that is in thine hand.

he gave it her, and came in unto her, and she conceived by him. . . .
. . .And it came to pass about three months after, that it was told Judah, saying, Tamar thy daughter
in law hath played the harlot;
and also, behold, she is with child by whoredom.
And
Judah said, Bring her forth, and let her be burnt.
When
she was brought forth, she sent
to her father - in law, saying,
By the man, whose these are, am I with child: and she said, Discern, I pray thee,
whose are these, the signet,
and bracelets, and staff.
And
Judah acknowledged them,
and said, She hath been more righteous than I; because that I gave her not to Shelah my son. And he knew her again no more.
And
it came to pass in the time
of her travail, that, behold, twins were in her womb.
And
it came to pass, when she travailed, that the one put out his hand: and the midwife took and bound upon his hand a scarlet thread, saying, This
came out first.
And
it came to pass, as he drew back his hand, that, behold, his brother came out:

And all
the people that were in the gate, and the elders, said, We are witnesses. The Lord make the woman
that is come into thine house like Rachel and like Leah, which two did build the house of Israel: and do thou worthily in Ephratah, and be famous in Bethlehem:
And let thy
house be like the house of Pharez, whom Tamar
bare unto Judah, of the seed which the Lord
shall give thee of this young woman.
*

begat Aminadab; and Aminadab begat Naasson; and Naasson begat Salmon;
And Salmon
begat Booz of Rachab; and Booz begat Obed of Ruth; and Obed begat Jesse;
And Jesse
begat David the king;
*
The
Christ
Judah,
thou art he
whom
thy
brethren shall praise: thy
hand
shall be in the neck of thine enemies;
thy father's children shall bow down before thee.
Judah
is
a lion's whelp: from the prey, my son, thou
art
gone up: he
stooped
down, he couched as a lion, and as an old lion; who
shall
rouse him up?
The sceptre
shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be.
*
And
the chief butler told his dream to Joseph, and said to him, In my dream, behold, a vine was before me;
And
in the vine were three branches: and it was as though it budded,
and her blossoms shot forth;
and the clusters thereof brought forth ripe grapes:
And
Pharaoh's cup was in my hand: and I took
the grapes, and pressed them into Pharaoh's cup, and I
gave the cup into Pharaoh's hand.
**
Binding
his foal unto the vine, and his ass's colt unto
the choice vine;
**
And
they took
Joseph's coat, and killed a kid of the goats, and dipped the coat in the blood;
And
they sent
the coat of many colours, and they brought it to their father; and said, This have we found: - know now whether it be thy son's coat or no.
And
he knew it, and said, It is
my son's coat; - an evil beast hath devoured him; Joseph is without doubt
rent in pieces.
**
he washed
his garments
in wine, and his clothes in the blood
of
grapes:
**
And
he took butter, and milk,
and the calf which he had dressed, and set it before them;
**
His
eyes
shall be red with wine, and his teeth white with milk.
Zebulun

shall dwell at the haven of the sea;
and he shall be for an
haven
of ships; and his border shall be unto Zidon.

Issachar
is a strong ass couching down between two burdens:
And
he saw that rest was good, and
the land that it was pleasant; and bowed his shoulder to bear, and became a servant unto tribute.
Dan
Dan shall judge - his people, as one
of
the tribes of Israel.
**
He divideth
the sea with his power, and by his understanding he smiteth
through the proud. By his spirit
he hath garnished the heavens; his hand
hath formed
the crooked serpent.
Lo,
these are parts
of his ways: but how little a
portion is heard of him? but the thunder of his power
who can understand?
**
Dan shall be a serpent
by the way,
*
Their
poison is like
the poison of a serpent: they
are like
the deaf adder that stoppeth her
ear;
Which will not hearken to the voice of charmers,
charming never so wisely.
*
Look
not
thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth
itself
aright.
At
the last it
biteth
like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder.
Thine
eyes
shall behold strange women, and thine heart shall utter perverse things.
Yea,
thou
shalt
be as he that lieth down in the midst of the sea, or as he
that lieth upon the top of a mast.
They
have stricken me, shalt thou say, and I was not sick; they have beaten me, and I felt it not: when
shall I awake?
I will seek it
yet
again.
*
an
adder in the path, that biteth the horse heels, so
that
his rider shall fall backward.
I have
waited for thy salvation, O Lord.
Gad
Gad, a troop shall overcome him: but he shall overcome at the last.
Asher
Out
of
Asher his bread shall be fat, and he shall yield royal dainties.
Naphtali
Naphtali is a hind let loose: he giveth goodly words.
Joseph
Joseph is a fruitful bough, even a fruitful bough by a well; whose branches run
over the wall:
The archers have sorely grieved him, and shot at him, and hated him:
But
his bow abode in strength, and the arms of his hands were made strong
by the hands of the mighty
God
of Jacob; (from thence is the shepherd, the stone of Israel:)
Even
by the God of thy
father,
who shall help thee; and by the Almighty, who shall bless thee with blessings of heaven above, blessings
of the deep that lieth under, blessings of the breasts, and of the womb:
The
blessings of thy
father
have prevailed above the blessings of my progenitors
unto the utmost bound of the everlasting
hills: they
shall be on the head of Joseph, and on
the crown
of the head of him that was
separate from his brethren.
**
And
the Lord God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done
this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou
go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:
*
The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, and the lion shall eat straw like the
bullock: and dust shall be the serpent's meat. They shall not hurt nor destroy in
all my holy mountain, saith the Lord.
**
Benjamin
Benjamin shall ravin as a wolf: in the morning he
shall devour the prey, and at night he shall divide the spoil.
**
And God blessed
them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and
let fowl multiply in the earth.
*
I am
the God of Abraham thy father . . .
And,
behold, the Lord stood above it, and said, I am the Lord
God of Abraham thy father, and the God of Isaac: the land whereon thou liest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed;
But
his bow abode in strength, and the arms of his hands were made strong by the hands of the
mighty
God
of Jacob; (from thence is the
shepherd, the stone of Israel:)
And
God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and
have dominion over the fish
of the sea, and over the fowl of the air,
and
over every living thing that moveth
upon the earth.
And
God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which
is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of
a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.
**
All
these are the twelve tribes of Israel: and this is it that their father spake unto them, and blessed them; every one
according
to his blessing he
blessed
them.
