And
God said,
Let
the earth bring forth grass,
the herb
yielding
seed,
and
the fruit
tree yielding fruit
- after his kind,
whose seed is in itself, upon the earth:
and
it
was
so.
***
So
God created
man in
- his own image,
in the image
of God created he him;
male
and female created he them.
***
Thus
the heavens and the earth were finished,
and
all the host of them.
*
I know it,
my son,
*
And
on the seventh
day - God ended his work which - he had made;
*
I know it:
*
and
he rested on the seventh day from all
- his work which - he had made.
***
and
Adam and his wife hid themselves
from the presence of the Lord God amongst the trees of the garden.
***
And
the Lord
God
formed man of
the dust of the ground,
and
breathed into his nostrils
the breath of life;
and
man became
a living soul.
***
And
the Lord God planted a garden
eastward
in Eden;
and
there he put
the man
whom he
had formed.
And
out of the ground made the Lord God to grow every tree
that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food;
the tree
of
life also
in
the midst of the garden,
and
the tree of knowledge of good
and evil.
And
a river went out of Eden to
water the garden;
and
from
thence it was
parted,
and
became into four heads.
The name of the first is
Prison:
that is it which
compasseth the whole land of Havilah,
where there
is gold;
And
the gold
of
that land is good:
there
is bdellium and the onyx stone.
***
And
Adam knew
Eve his
wife;
and
she conceived,
and
bare Cain,
and said,
I have
gotten a man - from the Lord.
***
And
Cain went out from
the presence of the Lord,
and
dwelt in
the land of Nod,
on the east of Eden.
And
Cain knew his wife;
and
she conceived,
and
bare Enoch:
**
and
he builded a city,
and
called the name of the city,
after the name of his son,
Enoch.
And
unto Enoch was born Irad:
and
Irad begat Mehujael:
and
Mehujael begat Methusael: and Methusael begat Lamech.
And
Lamech took unto him two
wives: the name of the one
was
Adah,
and
the name of the other Zillah.
*
And
Adah
bare Jabal:
he was the father of such as dwell in tents, and of such as have cattle.
And
his
brother's name was Jubal:
he was the father of all such as handle the harp and organ.
*
And
Lamech said unto his wives, Adah and Zillah,
Hear
my voice; ye
wives
of Lamech, hearken
unto my speech:
*
And
Adam knew his wife again; and she bare a son,
and
called his name Seth:
For God,
said she,
hath
appointed me
another seed instead of
Abel, whom
Cain slew.
***
And
to Seth,
to
him also
there was born a son; and he called
his name Enos:
then
began men to call upon the name of the Lord.
**
And
Adam lived an hundred and thirty
years, and begat a son in his own likeness,
after his image;
and called his name Seth:
***
And
Lamech lived
an hundred eighty and two years,
and
begat a son:
And
he called his name Noah, saying, This same shall comfort us
concerning
our work
and toil of our hands,
***
And
the Lord
said,
My
spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also
is flesh:
yet - his
days shall be
an hundred and twenty years.
***
And
God saw
that
the wickedness of man was great
in
the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
And
it repented
the Lord that he had
made man
on the earth,
and
it grieved
him at his heart.
***
But
Noah found
grace in
the eyes
of
the Lord.
These
are
the generations
of
Noah: Noah was a just man
and
perfect in his generations,
and
Noah walked
with
God.
***
And
God looked
upon
the earth,
and,
behold,
it
was corrupt; for
all flesh had
corrupted his way upon the earth.
***
Of
fowls after their
kind,
and of cattle after their kind, of every creeping
thing of the earth after his kind, two of every sort shall come unto thee, to keep them alive.
And
take thou unto thee
of all
food that
is eaten,
and
thou shalt gather it
to
thee;
and
it shall be for food for thee, and for them.
**
Hear
my voice; ye
wives
of Lamech, hearken unto my speech:
*
And
Lamech lived
an hundred eighty and two years, and
begat a son:
And
he called his name Noah, . . .
***
Thus
did
Noah; according to all that God commanded him,
so did he.
