But man dieth, and wasteth away:
****
And the Lord said, I will destroy man whom I
have created from the face
of the earth; both man, and beast,
and the creeping thing,
and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me - that
I
have made them.
***
And the earth was without form,
**
So shall my
word be that goeth
forth
out of my mouth: it
shall not return unto me void, but it
shall accomplish that which - I please,
and it
shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.
For ye shall go out
with joy, and be led forth with peace: the mountains
and the hills shall break forth before
you into singing, and all the trees of the field
shall clap their hands.
**
and void;
*
and darkness was upon
the face of the deep.
And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
And
God said, Let there be light: and there
was light.
And
God saw the light, that it was good: and
God divided the light - from the darkness.
And
God called the light - Day,
and the darkness
he called -
Night.
***
And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground,
and breathed
into his nostrils the breath of life;
and man became a living soul.
*
And the Lord God planted
a garden eastward
in Eden;
and there
he put the - man whom he - had formed.
*
And Noah began to be an
husband-man,
and he
planted a vineyard:
***
And what man is he that hath planted a
vineyard, and hath not yet eaten of
it? let him also
go and return unto his house, lest he
die in the battle,
and another man
eat of it.
***
And he
drank of the wine,
*
He taketh away the heart of the chief
of the people of the earth, and causeth
them to wander in a wilderness
where there is no way.
They grope in
the dark without light, and he maketh them to stagger like a drunken man.
*
and was
drunken;
*
My bones are pierced
in me in the night season: and my sinews take no rest. By the great force of my disease is my garment changed:
it bindeth me about as
the collar of my
coat.
He hath cast
me into the mire,
and I am become
like dust - and
ashes.
I cry unto thee, and thou dost not hear me:
I stand up, and
thou regard-est me not.
Thou art become cruel
to me: with thy strong hand thou
opposest thyself against me.
Thou liftest me
up to the wind; thou causest me
to ride upon it, and
dissolvest my substance.
**
And Adam
called his wife's name Eve; because she was the mother of all living.
*
And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain,
and said, I have gotten
a man from the Lord.
**
For I know that thou
wilt bring me to death, and to the house
appointed for all living.
***
And the earth was without form,
**
and he
was uncovered within his
tent.
*****
And Cush begat Nimrod: he began
to be a mighty one in the earth.
He was a mighty hunter - before
the Lord: wherefore
it is said, Even as Nimrod the mighty
hunter - before the Lord.
***
Go to, let us
- go
down, and there
confound their language, that they
may not understand one another's speech.
***
So the Lord
scattered them abroad from thence upon
the face of all the earth: and they left - off to build the city.
And the beginning of his kingdom was Babel,
and Erech, and Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar.
Out of that land
went forth Asshur, and builded Nineveh, and the city Rehoboth, and Calah,
And Resen between
Nineveh and Calah: the same is a great city.
***
And God
said, Let
there be a firmament
in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters
from the waters.
And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament
from the waters which were above the
firmament: and it was so.
And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.
And God
said, Let the waters under
the heaven be gathered together unto one
place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so.
***
Seven Nights
These are the generations
of Shem: Shem was an hundred years
old, and begat Arphaxad two years after
the flood:
And Shem
lived after he begat Arphaxad five hundred years, and begat sons and daughters.
And
Arphaxad lived five and thirty
years, and begat Salah:
And
Arphaxad lived after he begat Salah
four hundred and three years, and begat sons and daughters.
And
Salah lived thirty years, and begat Eber:
***
And unto Eber were born two sons:
the name of one was Peleg; for in his days was the earth divided;
and his brother's name was Joktan.. . .
***
And
Joktan begat Almodad, and Sheleph, and Hazarmaveth,
and Jerah,
Hadoram
also, and Uzal, and Diklah,
And
Ebal, and Abimael, and Sheba,
And
Ophir, and Havilah, and Jobab.
***
This same shall comfort us concerning our work and toil of our hands, because of the ground which the Lord
hath cursed.
***
All these were the sons of Joktan.
*
Shem, Arphaxad, Shelah,
Eber, Peleg, Reu,
Serug,
Nahor, Terah,
Abram; the same is Abraham.
***
And Adam lived an hundred
and thirty years, and begat a son in his own likeness,
- after his image;
and called his name Seth:
***
Now these are the generations of Terah: Terah begat
Abram, Nahor,
and Haran;
and Haran begat
Lot.
***
Therefore shall
a man leave - his father and his mother,
***
But man dieth, and wasteth away:
***
And Haran
died
before - his father
Terah in the land of his nativity, in Ur of the Chaldees.
***
And
Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father,
and told his two brethren - without.
**
That the sons
of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair;
and they took them wives of all which they chose.
***
And Abram and
Nahor took them
wives:
***
.
. . Now
these are the generations of Terah: Terah begat Abram, . . .
***
And
yet indeed she is my sister; she is the daughter of my father, but not
the daughter of my mother; and she became my
wife.
***
Therefore
shall a man leave
his father
and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife:
And they
were both naked, the man and
his wife,
and were not
ashamed.
***
And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
***
And Shem and Japheth took a garment, and laid it upon both
their shoulders, and went backward, and covered the nakedness
of their father; and their faces were
backward, and they saw not their father's
nakedness.
***
And
Abram and Nahor took them wives: . . .the name of Abram's wife was Sarai;
. . .But Sarai was barren; she had no child.
Now the Lord had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and
from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto
a land that I will
shew thee:
And I will make
of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy
name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:
***
And he
said, Cursed be Canaan; a
servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren.
And he
said, Blessed be the Lord God of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant.
God
shall enlarge Japheth, and he shall dwell in the tents of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant.
***
And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all
families of the earth be blessed.
So Abram departed, as the Lord
had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed
- out of Haran.
