Sarah
an
Abram
And the Lord
said unto Abraham, Wherefore did Sarah laugh, saying, Shall I of
a surety bear a child, which am old?
Is
any thing too hard for the Lord? At the time appointed I will
return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah
( Assyrian) shall have a son.
*
And Nahor lived - after he begat Terah an hundred and nineteen years, and begat sons and daughters.
*
Unto Shem
also, the father of all the children of Eber,
the brother of Japheth the elder,
even to him were children born.
*
Now Sarai
(descendent of Japheth)
Abram's wife bare him no children: and she had an handmaid, (Sari’s sister) an
Egyptian, whose name was Hagar..
And
Sarai said unto Abram, Behold now, the Lord hath restrained me from bearing: I pray thee, -go in
unto my maid; it may be that I
may obtain children by her. And
Abram hearkened to the voice of Sarai.
*
And
God said, Sarah
- thy wife shall bear thee a son indeed; and thou shalt call his name Isaac: and I will
establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and
with his seed
after him.
*
And
as for Ishmael, I
have heard thee: Behold, I have
blessed him, and will make him fruitful, and will multiply him exceedingly; twelve princes shall he
beget,
and I will make him a great nation.
*
But my covenant will I establish with Isaac, which Sarah
shall bear
unto thee at this set time in the next year.
And
he left
off talking with him, and God went up from Abraham.
*
And
I
will put enmity - between thee - and the workman, - and between - thy seed and her seed;
it
shall bruise - thy head, - and thou shalt - bruise his heel.
*
And
Isaac entreated the Lord
for his wife, because she was barren: and the Lord was entreated of
him, and
Rebekah his wife
conceived.
And
the children struggled together within
her; and she said, If it be so,
why am I thus?
And she went to inquire of the
Lord.
And
the Lord said unto her, Two nations
are in thy womb,
and two manner of people shall be separated
from thy bowels; and the one
people
shall be stronger than the other people; and the elder shall serve the younger.
And
when her days to be delivered
were fulfilled, behold, there
were twins in her womb.
*
I Am
Jacob
: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was
the name thereof.
And
after that came - his brother out,
and his hand took hold on Esau's heel; and his name was called Jacob: and Isaac was threescore
years old when
she bare them.
*
And
Cain talked with Abel his brother:
*
And
Rebekah spake unto Jacob her son,
saying, Behold, - I heard thy father speak unto Esau - thy brother, saying,
Bring
me venison, and make me savoury meat, that I may
eat, and bless - thee before the Lord
- before my death.
*
And
Lamech said unto his wives, Adah and Zillah, Hear my voice; ye wives of Lamech, hearken unto my speech:
for I have slain a man to my wounding,
and a young man to my hurt.
*
And
he said, Who told thee - that thou
wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof - I commanded thee that thou
shouldest not eat?
*
Now
therefore, my son, obey my
voice
according to that which I command - thee.
Go
now to the flock, and fetch me - from
thence two good kids of the goats; and I will make them savoury
meat for -
thy father,
such as he loveth:
And
thou shalt bring it
to
thy father, that he may eat,
and that he may bless thee
before his death.
And
Jacob said to Rebekah his mother, Behold, Esau my brother
is a hairy man, and I am a smooth man:
My
father peradventure will feel me, and I shall seem to him as a deceiver; and I shall bring a curse upon me, and not a blessing.
And
his mother said unto him, Upon me be thy curse, my
son:
only obey my voice, and go fetch me them.
And
he
went, and fetched, and brought them to his mother: and his mother made savoury meat, such as his father loved.
***
for
I
have slain a man to my wounding, and a young man to my hurt.
***
And
he that is eight days old shall be
circumcised among you, every man child in your generations, he that is born - in the house,
- or bought with money of any stranger, which is not of thy seed.
*
And
all the men
of his house, born - in the house,
and bought with money of the stranger,
were circumcised with him.
***
And
Rebekah took goodly raiment of - her eldest son Esau, which were with - her - in
the house, and put them upon Jacob her younger
son:
**
Unto Adam also and to - his wife -
did the Lord God - make coats of skins,
and clothed them.
**
And
she put the skins
of
the kids of the goats upon his hands, and upon the smooth of his neck:
And
she gave the savoury meat and the bread, which she had prepared, into the hand
of
- her son Jacob.
***
And
the firstborn
said
unto the younger, Our father is old, and there is not a man in the earth to come in unto us - after the manner of all the earth:
***
And
he came unto his father,
and said, My father: and he said, Here am I; who art thou, my son?
And
Jacob said unto his father,
- I
am Esau thy firstborn; I have done according as
thou badest me: arise, I pray thee,
sit and
eat of my venison, that thy soul
may bless me.
And
Isaac said unto his son, How is it
that
thou hast found it
so quickly, my son? And he said, Because the Lord thy God brought it
to
me.
And
Isaac said unto Jacob, Come near, I pray thee, that I may feel thee, my son, whether thou be my very son Esau or not.
And
Jacob went near unto Isaac
his father; and he felt him, and said, The voice is Jacob's
voice, but the hands
are
the hands of Esau.
***
And
Shem and Japheth took a garment, and laid it upon both their shoulders, and
went backward, and covered the nakedness
of their father; and their faces were backward,
and they saw
not
- their father's nakedness.
***
And
he discerned
him not, because
his hands
were hairy, as his brother Esau's hands: so he blessed him.
And
he said, Art thou my
very son Esau?
And
he said, I am.
And he said,
Bring it near to me, and I will eat of my son's venison, that my soul may bless
thee. And he brought it near to him, and he did eat: and he brought him wine,
and he drank.
And
his father
Isaac said unto him, Come near now,
and kiss me,
- my
son.
*
And
Noah builded an
altar
unto the Lord; and took of every clean beast, and of every clean fowl, and offered burnt
offerings on the altar.
And
the Lord smelled
a
sweet savour; and the Lord said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more - for man's
sake;
for the imagination
of
man's heart is
d-evil
from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done.
***
And
he came near, and kissed him: and he smelled
the smell of his raiment,
and blessed him, and said, See, the smell of my son is as the smell of a field which the Lord hath blessed:
Therefore
God give thee of the dew
of heaven, and the fatness of the earth, and plenty of corn and wine:
Let
people serve thee, and
nations bow down to thee: be lord over thy brethren, and let thy mother's sons bow down to thee:
cursed be every one that curseth
thee,
and
blessed be he that blesseth thee.
*
And
Cain talked
with Abel - his brother:
Jacob who is Israel
*
As for
- me,
behold,
my covenant is with thee, and thou shalt
be a father of many
nations.
Neither
shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations
have I made thee.
And
I
will make thee exceeding fruitful, and I will make nations of thee, and kings shall come out of thee.
And
I
will establish my covenant - between me
and thee and thy seed - after thee in - their generations - for an everlasting
covenant, to be a God unto thee,
and to thy seed - after thee.
And
I
will
give unto thee, and to thy seed - after thee, the land
wherein thou art a stranger, all
the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession;
and I will
be their God.
And
God said unto Abraham, Thou shalt keep my covenant therefore, thou, and thy seed
- after thee
- in
their generations.
*
And
Abel, he also
brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat
thereof. And the Lord had respect unto Abel and to his offering:
*
For
the Lord's portion is his people;
Jacob
is the lot
of his inheritance.
He
found him in a desert land, and in the waste howling wilderness; he led him about,
he instructed him, he kept
him as the apple of his eye.
As
an
eagle stirreth up her nest, fluttereth over her young, spreadeth abroad her wings, taketh them, beareth them on her wings:
So
the Lord alone did lead him, and there was no strange god with him.
He
made him ride on the high places
of the earth, that he
might
eat the increase of the fields; and he made him to suck honey out of the rock,
and oil out of the flinty rock;
Butter
of kine, and milk of sheep, with fat of lambs, and rams of the breed of Bashan, and
goats, with the fat
of
kidneys of wheat; and thou didst drink the pure blood
of the grape.
