When
ye
come to appear
before me, who hath required this at your hand, to tread my courts?
Bring
no more vain oblations; incense is
an
abomination unto me; the new
moons and sabbaths, the calling of assemblies, I cannot away with; it is
iniquity, even the solemn meeting. . .
**
And
the land was not able to bear them, that they - might dwell
together: for their substance was great, so that they could not dwell together. . .
*
And
I will put enmity between thee
and the work-man, and between
thy seed and her seed;
it shall bruise thy
head, and thou shalt bruise his he-el.
*
And
there was a strife - between
the herdmen
of Abram's cattle
and
the herdmen of Lot's cattle:
and
the Canaanite and the Perizzite dwelled then in the land.
And
Abram said unto Lot, Let there be no strife, I
pray thee, - between me and thee, and between my herdmen
and thy herdmen;
for we be brethren.
Is
not the whole land before thee? separate thyself, I pray thee, - from me: if thou
wilt take the left hand, then I will go to the right; or if thou depart to the right hand, then I will go to the left.
**
.
. .Your new moons and your appointed feasts my soul hateth: they are
a trouble unto me; I am weary to bear them.
**
For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.
**
And
when ye spread forth your hands, I will hide mine eyes from you: yea,
when ye make many prayers, I will not hear: your hands are full of blood.
Wash you, make you clean; put away the
evil of your doings from before mine eyes; cease to do evil;
Learn
to do well; seek
judgment, relieve the oppressed,
judge the fatherless, plead for the widow.
Come now,
and let us reason together,
saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be
as white as snow; - though they be red like crimson,
- they shall be as wool.

Hearken
unto me, ye that know righteousness, the
people in whose heart is my law; fear ye not the reproach of men, neither
be ye afraid of their revilings.
For
the moth shall eat them up like a garment, and the
worm shall eat them like wool: but my righteousness
shall be for ever, and my salvation from generation to generation.
*
If
ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land:

The
earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence.
And
God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh
had corrupted his way upon the earth.
**
And
the Lord commanded me - at that time
to teach you statutes and judgments, that ye might do them in
the land whither ye go over
to possess it.
**
And
the firstborn said unto the younger,
Our
father is old, and there is not a man in the earth to come in
unto us - after the manner of all the earth:
**
Take
ye therefore good
heed unto yourselves; for ye saw no manner of similitude on
the day that the Lord spake unto you in Horeb out of the midst of the fire:
Lest ye corrupt yourselves, and make you a graven image, the similitude of any figure, the likeness
of male or female,
The likeness
of any beast that is on
the earth, the likeness of any winged fowl that flieth in the air,
The likeness
of any thing that creepeth on the ground, the likeness of any fish that is in the waters - beneath the earth:
And
lest thou lift up thine eyes unto heaven, and when thou seest the sun, and the moon, and the stars, even all the host of heaven, shouldest be driven to worship them, and serve them, which the Lord thy
God
hath divided unto all nations under the whole heaven.
But
the Lord hath taken you, and brought you forth out of the iron
furnace, even out of Egypt, to be unto him a people of inheritance, as ye are this day.
