Woe to the idol shepherd that leaveth the flock!
the sword shall be upon his arm, and upon his right eye: his arm shall be clean dried up, and his - right
eye
shall be utterly darkened.
And if thy
right eye offend thee, - pluck it out, and cast it
from thee:
for
it is profitable
for thee - that one of thy
members
should perish, and not that thy whole
body
should be cast into hell.
And
Joseph took them - both,
- Ephraim in his right hand - toward
Israel's left hand, and Man-as-seth in his left hand - toward Israel's - right hand, and brought them - near unto him.
And Israel -
stretched out his right hand, and - laid it
upon Ephraim's
head, - who was the younger, and his left hand upon Manasseh's head, - guiding his - hands
wittingly;
for Manasseth was the firstborn.
And Joseph said - unto his father, Not so,
my father:
for
this is the firstborn; put thy right hand upon his head.
And
his father refused,
and said,
I
know it,
*****
That
say,
Let him make speed, and hasten his work, that we may see it:
and let the counsel of the Holy One
of Israel draw nigh and come, that we may know it! . . .
.
. . Behold, I
will
do a new thing; now it
shall spring forth; shall ye
not know it?
*****
my son,
I know it:
he
also shall become a people,
and
he also
shall be great:
but
truly his younger brother shall be
greater than he,
and his seed
shall
become a multitude of nations.
Thee
And
he blessed them that day, saying, -
In
thee shall Israel bless, saying, - God
make thee as Eph-raim
and as Man-as-seth: and he - set Ephraim before Manasseh.
*****
And Isaac's
servants digged in the valley, and found there - a well of springing water. . . .
*****
Woe
unto him that striveth with his
Maker! Let the potsherd strive with the potsherds of the
earth. Shall the clay say to him that fashioneth it, What makest
thou? - or thy work, He
hath no hands?
Woe
unto him that saith unto his father, What be-gettest thou? - or to the work-man, What hast thou - brought forth? . . .
*****
And
God said, Let us make man in our im-age, -after our
likeness:
*****
Thus
saith the Lord,
the Holy One of Israel, and his Maker,
- Ask me of things to come concerning my sons, and concerning the work of my hands command ye - me.
I have
made the earth, and created man upon it: I,
even my hands, have stretched out the heavens, and all their host have I commanded.
I
have raised him up in righteousness,
and I will
direct all his ways: he shall build - my city, and he
shall let go my captives, not for price
nor reward, saith the Lord of hosts.
Thus
saith the Lord,
The labour of Egypt, and merchandise of Ethiopia and of the Sabeans, men of stature,
shall come over unto thee, and - they shall be thine: they shall come - after thee; in chains they shall come over, and they shall fall down unto thee, they shall make supplication unto thee, saying, Surely
God is
in thee; and there
is
none else, there is no God.
*****
And
the
herdmen of Gerar did strive with Isaac's herdmen,
saying, The water is ours: and he called the name of the well
Esek; because they strove
with
him.
And
they digged another well, and strove for
that
also: and he
called
the name of it
Sitnah.
*****
And
he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not
theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them - four hundred years;
*****
And
he removed
- from thence, and digged another well; and for
that they strove not: and he called
the name of it
Rehoboth; and he
said,
For now - the Lord hath made room - for us, and we shall be fruitful in the land.
And
he went
up
- from thence to Beersheba.
. . .
*****
And
God called the light Day, and the
darkness
he called Night.
*****
And
the Lord appeared unto him the same night, and
said, I am
the God of Abraham thy father: fear not, for I am with thee,
and will bless thee, and multiply thy seed - for my servant Abraham's sake.
And
he builded an
altar there,
and
called upon the name of the Lord,
- and pitched his tent there:
and there
Isaac's servants digged a well.
Then Abimelech went to him - from Gerar,
and Ahuzzath one of his friends,
and Phichol the chief captain of his army.
And
Isaac said unto them, Wherefore come ye
to
me, seeing ye hate me,
and have sent me away from you?
*****
He
that speaketh flattery to his friends, even the
eyes of his children shall fail. He hath made me also a byword of the people;
and aforetime I was as a tabret. Mine eye also is dim by reason of sorrow, and
all my members are as a shadow.
And
if thy right hand - offend thee, - cut it off, and cast it from
thee:
for it is profitable for thee that one of thy
members should perish, and not that thy - whole body should be cast into hell.
